The Simple Scavenger Hunt App
Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Seekt? Seekt is a scavenger hunt app for iPhone and Mac. Hosts design hunts with photos, quizzes, location triggers, and timed challenges. Players join for free by scanning a QR code and compete in teams.
How do players connect? The host shares a QR code or a short join code. Players scan the QR code or enter the code in the app to instantly join the game and pick a team.
Do players need to pay? No. Joining and playing games is completely free. Everyone can also host for free with one player device to test and preview their hunts. Paid plans start at $29.99 (US) for larger groups and vary by the number of player devices supported.
Is there a subscription? No. All host plans are one-time purchases. No subscriptions, no ads. Pay once, host forever. Plans range from $29.99 for Family (up to 10 devices) to $599.99 for Enterprise (unlimited devices).
Does it work without internet? Yes. Submissions are queued offline and automatically synced when connectivity returns. Players can keep hunting even if they lose signal.
How many teams can play? There's no hard limit. Teams join by scanning a QR code or entering a join code, and each team can have multiple members on separate phones.
Can multiple people be on the same team? Yes. A team lead creates the team, and other players request to join. The lead approves or rejects requests. Each member submits from their own phone.
Can I reuse hunts? Yes. Duplicate entire hunts for new events, or save individual items to a reusable library. The app also includes a prebuilt library of ready-to-use items to help you get started quickly.
Can I share a hunt with another host? Yes. Tap "Share Hunt" on the hunt detail screen to generate a share link. Send it via iMessage, email, or AirDrop. The recipient opens the link, taps "Import Hunt," and gets a fully independent copy in their library — including all items, settings, and reference photos. Share links expire after seven days.
What types of items can I create? Photo and video evidence, text and numeric answers, multiple choice quizzes, photo matching, multi-part items, and collectible objects. Any item can be locked behind a GPS location trigger.
How does scoring work? Each item has a point value. You can add first-finder bonuses, streak bonuses, time-decay scoring, and hint costs. Hosts can also adjust points when reviewing submissions.
Can I extend the game while it's running? Yes. Hosts can add bonus time mid-game. Players are notified with an alert and see the extra time reflected on the countdown timer.
What are exclusive items? An exclusive item can only be claimed by one team. The first team to submit locks it out for everyone else, adding a competitive race element.
What are hidden items? Hidden items are secret challenges that appear only after a player completes a trigger item. They show as blurred teasers on the hunt list until unlocked.
Does it work on Mac? Yes. Seekt is available on Apple Silicon Macs via the Mac App Store. You can design hunts and manage games from a larger screen.
How do safety check-ins work? Hosts set a check-in interval when creating a game. Players are periodically prompted to confirm they're OK, and the host dashboard shows which teams are overdue.
Can I message teams during a game? Yes. Hosts can broadcast announcements to all teams or send messages to individual teams mid-game.
How do players find location-triggered items? A directional arrow on-screen guides players toward the GPS location. The item unlocks automatically when they arrive within range.
What happens if a player loses signal during a game? The app switches to offline mode automatically. Submissions are queued locally and synced as soon as connectivity returns. Players can keep hunting without interruption.
Can the host watch the game in real time? Yes. The host dashboard shows a live leaderboard, team positions on a map, photo submissions as they come in, and safety check-in status. Hosts can also review and score submissions, send announcements, and extend the timer.
Can I run the same hunt more than once? Yes. Each game is a separate instance of a hunt. You can run the same hunt with different groups as many times as you like, and each game has its own teams, scores, and submissions.
How does the timer work? The host sets a game duration when starting. Players see both elapsed and remaining time. If needed, the host can add bonus time mid-game and players are notified immediately.
What devices do players need? Seekt runs on iPhone (iOS 17+). Each team needs at least one phone. In multi-member mode (set up by the host), each team member can use their own phone to submit independently on behalf of their team.
Is there a web or browser version of Seekt? No. Seekt is only available as a native app for iPhone (iOS 17+) and Apple Silicon Macs via the App Store. There is no web, Android, or Windows version. The demo on seekt.ca is a self-running preview animation, not a playable version of the game — it does not connect to real game servers. To create, host, or play a hunt, install the app.
What languages does Seekt support? Seekt is fully localized in 11 languages: English, French, German, Japanese, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian, Portuguese, and Korean. The app automatically matches your device language.
